Sequins and Sparkle Thrift Haul
I have loved thrift shopping for as long as I can remember and I knew I wanted all my holiday outfits to be thrifted. The key to finding those perfect seasonal outfits second hand is to plan ahead. Because I wanted to go all-out with sequins for the holidays, I started my hunt for sparkles back in the summer. Every trip to the thrift store is a surprise and you just never what you will find. Slowly but surely I found all the pieces for the perfect New Year's outfit! We shot these outfit pics at the most perfect New Year's party desitnation, The Palace Hotel in downtown San Francisco.
The New Year's outfit featured in this post and the one from our Tahoe snow trip are head-to-toe thrifted gems. My bronze dress is Jessica Simpson brand and the silver sequin jacket comes from London Jean. I got these fun sparkly items on online thrift shop Swap (click here and receive 20% off your first purchase!). On our Tahoe trip I sported sequins with a top from Free People, a favorite find from online thrift shop Schoola (click here and receive $10 off your first purchase 😉 ). During my thrifting search I found the perfect faux fur coat from Urban Outfitters (also from Swap!). My booties are Vince Camuto from Goodwill and my clutch is vintage velvet from Savers.
Top Thrifting Tips for an Ecostylist
When you're thrifting in either the store or online, the selection will be unpredictable. Often there's only one size of each item and sometimes you just can't find the style you're looking for, but that's all part of the hunt! When you finally do find that perfect item it makes it all the more awesome! Follow my pro thrifting tips to be at the top of your thrifting game:
Thrift wishlist: I have a running thrift "wishlist" of clothing and accessory items I would love to find. I am always keeping my eye out for these gems when I'm shopping.
Try everything on: You never know how an article of clothing is going to fit because clothing sizes and brands vary greatly. Wear a simple and easy to remove outfit so that you can try everything on in a snap, my favorite go-to is a sweater with a tank and leggings.
Be bold: Thrifting is the perfect place to try out new trends without breaking the bank. Find some fun pieces that take your personal style to new heights.
Be patient and thorough: Finding those amazing gems can take time. Make sure you're not in a rush and you're looking through all the racks. Your hard work will pay off, promise!
Search for quality: Fabrics that are made of high quality fibers like wool, cashmere, pima cotton and silk tend to stay in good condition longer. Check garment labels and look for great fabrics and blends.
Be open minded: It is best not to go into the thrift shop looking for something specific because you will rarely find it on that trip. Keep your eyes and mind open for that amazing find that you didn't even know you wanted.
Don't forget to check the men's section: I have found some awesome sweaters and flannel shirts tucked away in the men's aisle.
Clean out before you stock up: Before you make the trip to the thrift store, clean out your closet and bring a bag to donate. It feels good to giveaway items that didn't work out and you'll have more closet room to shop guilt free!
