The weather has turned chilly in San Francisco and there is no doubt that winter is here. Along with all the beautiful holiday lights and merriment of the season unfortunately also comes flu-season (ugh!). I had been lucky throughout most the year and had somehow avoided a bug, that is until this month. This last week I have been in the throws of a full-blown cold with a congested head (my neti pot has become my new BFF), sore throat and complete lack of energy.
It all started during the week of Thanksgiving as we began our road trip through California and Nevada. For the sake of convenience while on the road, we weren't eating the healthiest foods, we spent long hours in the car without getting any exercise and to top it off we didn't getting enough rest.
Since we are right in the thick of the holidays, I have a full schedule of holiday parties and events with friends, family and fellow bloggers. Getting better as soon as possible has been my priority so that I can enjoy all the fun this time of year. Now that we are home and settled, I have made sure my morning routine is setting me up for a healthy day. I need to have energy to be productive and get all my "to-do's" crossed off on my list. As luck would have it, a company called Honey Colony reached out to me to try one of their immunity boosting products called Equilibrium Energy Superfood. I have bought superfoods before at Whole Foods when I felt like I needed a healthy boost so I was excited to try this new brand.
In my eagerness to feel like my old self again, my morning routine now includes my neti pot, a hot cup of tea, a hearty and healthy breakfast and a spoonful of Equilibrium Energy Superfood. When I first received my little jar of goodness and read the back label, I was pleasantly surprised at all the nutrient-dense superfoods packed into such a dainty jar. In my adventures through the Whole Foods vitamin aisle, I have seen ingredients like Phytoplankton and Blue Algae and I know they are known to work wonders on the body.
Another big focus for the winter is eating whole, fresh and healthy foods. Avocado toast has been my new favorite meal, I could honestly eat it for either breakfast, lunch or dinner (it's just so good!). Being a born and raised California girl, avocados are always a welcome addition to any meal. Sometimes I like to spice up my avocado toast with an egg, hot sauce, onions, sea salt, the options are endless! I highly suggest giving it a try, it's a healthy and filling way to start your day.
