Brunch, the most important meal of the weekend! The Sacramento brunch scene is always buzzing on the weekend and you’ll see so many people out and about in Midtown and East Sacramento. My friends from San Francisco love to come up and visit Sacramento to soak up some warm sunshine and eat some yummy brunch food.

We’ve been living in Sacramento for over 3 years now and I’ve seen so many new trendy restaurants open up. Needless to say, I am very willing to taste test each one to give you the scoop.

Sacramento's Top Trendy Brunch Spots

Cafeteria 15L

Cafeteria 15L is located on the corner of 15th St and L St in Midtown, hence the name. It’s a popular gathering place for Sacramento foodies and visitors alike. The fare is modern American and the vibe is contemporary cool. Scroll down to see photos of their colorful mimosas, mocktails and French toast.

Beast + Bounty

This super modern and chic restaurant just opened its doors in 2019 and serves updated brunch classics like a Benedict pizza and salmon hash. They’re located right across the street from the new Ice Blocks Center in the R District which has super cute shops to browse with a full brunch belly.

Canon

Located in East Sacramento at 34th Street, Canon offers a seasonal menu with new twists on classic American comfort foods. When my BFF came to visit from New York we feasted on sweet potato cinnamon rolls, ricotta pancakes with apple filling and rosemary powdered sugar and Millionaire's Bacon Toast with bacon jam, millionaire's bacon, tobacco onions, poached egg on brioche. Canon also has a colorful mural on their outside parking lot wall that is popular for Instagram photos.

LowBrau

I celebrated a low key baby shower brunch at Lowbrau with friends that traveled up from San Diego to visit us. This German-themed beer hall is all about sausages and modern pub grub. Lowbrau is located right in the heart of the Midtown Sacramento Gay District known as Lavender Heights and the streets are literally painted with rainbows.

Bacon & Butter

Bacon & Butter was literally the first brunch I ever had in Sacramento. Just a couple days after we closed escrow on our first house we had a celebratory brunch with friends at this spot. Try the grilled cheese Benedict at brunch, scroll down to see photos of this culinary creation!

Zocalo Midtown

Put a Mexican spin on your brunch with this modern eatery. Inside the Midtown building is bright and airy with touches of Mexican architecture. Zocalo’s Midtown location is a short walk from the Capital Building and surrounding gardens which makes for a very nice walk. I haven’t been to their West Sacramento location yet, it’s on my wishlist!

The Red Rabbit

Brunch is served only on Sunday between 11am - 3pm at Red Rabbit Kitchen. They’re known for their innovative cocktails and bar service. Their brunch menu has all kinds of morning dishes that feature all kinds of ways to eat eggs.

Hook & Ladder

Hook and Ladder Manufacturing Company is centrally located at 17th and S Street in Midtown. New on their brunch menu is Chive and Bacon Biscuits - yum! I’ve been here a couple times for both brunch and lunch and I enjoyed the outdoor patio dining (both the front street patio and the backyard). The food is New American which means new twists on the old favorites.

Hawks Public House

This upscale gastropub serves New American cuisine and puts a fancy spin on all your brunch classics. There’s a full bar for those looking for to make their brunch boozy. It’s located right on the border of East Sacramento and Midtown.

Sibling by Pushkin's

Pushkin’s menu is all gluten-free and they also have a large vegan menu as well. Because of it’s appealing modern aesthetics, it’s a popular brunch spot and you can expect a long wait on the weekends. But luckily it’s located in a scenic area in Midtown so it’s a pleasant walk while you wait for your table to open up.

Magpie

This Midtown staple serves a farm-to-fork eclectic menu with all kinds of international culinary foods. Their grass-fed burgers are a favorite among locals. Magpie’s interior design is industrial-chic and they have ample outdoor seating too.

Temple Coffee

Temple is a popular local Sacramento coffee shop chain with several locations around the city. Truth be told they aren’t exactly a brunch spot because they don’t have a big food menu, but I included them on the list anyway because they are truly a morning ritual for many caffeine addicts in Sacramento.

Camellia Coffee Roasters

Perfect spot for some low key coffee and pastry on the fly. They also recently added more breakfast options including bagels with salmon and muffins. Camellia is located inside WAL Public Market in Midtown’s R District where there’s some great mercantile shops. I also love their girly pink tile inside the cafe (scroll down to see photos).

Paragary's Midtown

French food with a California twist - yum! Weekend Brunch menu serving options like the salmon and avocado Benedict with a buttermilk biscuit.

Old Soul at The Weatherstone

The Old Soul local chain of coffee shops are considered institutions in Sacramento. The Weatherstone location is an historic brick building with vaulted ceilings and exposed beams. Many describe this location as having a very homey feel to it. The brunch menu is more classic and straight forward breakfast food, and they do serve vegan options as well.

The Morning Fork

The Morning Fork is a funky retro themed diner in Midtown. They only serve breakfast and lunch and their menu is classic American food.

The Porch

The Porch is an ode to Southern hospitality with foods like fried green tomatoes, beignets, po boys, skillet cornbread, chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits and biscuits. They also have great alcoholic drinks from the bar. The Porch is centrally located on K Street in Midtown.

The Shady Lady

The Shady Lady is a 1920’s themed modern speakeasy with vintage decor. It has a “dark bar” kind of vibe with fancy cocktails. The brunch menu is a mix of Southern, American classic and Mexican foods. Located in the heart of Midtown’s R District.

Orphan Breakfast House

Orphan Breakfast House is an old staple spot for longtime residents of East Sacramento. They serve a Latin-inspired breakfast menu which sets it apart from other brunch spots. I wouldn’t call the aesthetic modern or trendy, but it’s the only place I know where you can order tamales for breakfast. The Mimosa House

They refer to themselves as the OG house of bubbles because they’ve been in the brunch game for a long time. Their menu is truly massive, over 7 pages filled with breakfast options like crepes, waffles, pancakes, egg dishes and more. The Sacramento location is on 57th and J St in East Sacramento.

Iron Horse Tavern

The Iron Horse gives me very masculine vibes with industrial interiors, dark wood tables and leather seats. Their brunch menu has plenty of meaty options, egg dishes and sweet carbs like pancakes, waffles and French toast. The cocktail menu won’t disappoint either. Located on 15th and R Street in Midtown.
