For Halloween we decided to choose a family costume that honored both my husband’s and daughter’s Mexican family heritage - Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and Scout was baby Frida (she refused to wear her flower headdress for photos).

I was really excited about dressing up in traditional Mexican dresses because the garments are so bright and colorful. They feel so festive and really embody the carefree spirit of feminist hero Frida Kahlo.

In this blog post you’ll find the top places to purchase authentic traditional Mexican dresses online. These websites purchase directly from the artisans and support those communities. You can also shop for popular Mexican goods like serape blankets, Huichol handmade glass beaded earrings and more accessories.

Top 8 Online Shops to Buy Mexican Dresses

Etsy Mexican Handmade Shops

Etsy is always my first go-to destination to find handcrafted items from artisans. There’s dozens of Etsy shops dedicated to only selling Mexican dresses, tops, jewelry and home goods directly from Mexican artists. Off all the online places listed in this blog post, Etsy will have the biggest selection of styles.

On Etsy they even have markets dedicated to Frida Kahlo inspired art and traditional Mexican dresses. It’s one of the few places you can find rare Chiapaneco and Folklorico Dresses.

If you’re also planning on doing a Frida Kahlo Halloween costume, Etsy also has a very large selection of floral headpieces and accessories.

Official Fiesta

The folks at the Official Fiesta Imports shop travel to the Tianguis Markets in Mexico and purchase artisan-made and hard-to-find crafts, clothing and more to make them available to everyone online.

On their website you’ll find several styles of Mexican dresses including Puebla, Off-the-Shoulder Campesina, Cuyaca Tribal Dresses, Oaxacan Embroidered Mexican Dresses and Huicoyl Embroidered Mexican Dresses.

Official Fiesta also has a large selection of Mexican blankets, purses, children’s clothing and home decor.

Cielito Lindo Mexican Boutique

On the online boutique Cielito Lindo, they have a mix of both the traditional Mexican dresses, along with new and modern goods adorned with Mexican embroidery and decals. You’ll find a variety of embroidered Mexican dress styles including off-the-shoulder Campesino, Tehuacan Mexican Floral Dresses, San Antonino Dresses and more.

They also sell Mexican purses, jewelry, ponchos, shoes, Huaraches, and home decor.

Bonita Boutique

This modern Mexican boutique has a mix of the old-world traditional and new hybrid-modern clothing and accessories. On their website they sell embroidered dresses and skirts, Huipiles, Tenango embroidery, ponchos, Baja surf ponchos, rebozos, bags and jewelry.

Leos Imports

To be honest the selection of Mexican dresses on Leos Imports is not the best, but they make up for it in other inventory departments. They have a large selection of hard to find Mexican goods such as party supplies for Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), Loteria games and apparel, Lucha Libre Mexican fan gear and Mexican serape blankets.

Camelia Mexican Boutique

Camelia is another modern online boutique selling a mix of traditional and modern Mexican-inspired products.  These handmade items are crafted by artisans from Oaxaca, Puebla and Chiapas.

They have dresses and tops in the San Antonio embroidery style, embroidered face masks, Jalapa De Diaz embroidery, beach totes, and puebla dresses.

They also sell Mexican wedding dresses and bridesmaids matching folk dresses.

Nativa Mexico

The dresses on the Nativa Mexico online boutique are a mix traditional dresses and modern trendy styles. I personally love their beachy caftan maxi dresses, pom pom necklaces and embroidered bandanas. They also carry Otomí Dresses, Ribbon Dresses, plus size, San Antonino Dresses, Huipil Ponchos and Dresses.

Shop Mucho

The team at Shop Mucho does a great job of updating their Instagram account so you can see the variety of products they sell. Their boutique is fun and colorful to shop with mostly modern Mexican inspired products. They do mix in traditional artisan made embroidered dresses.
