As modern day consumers we have so many options when it comes to spending our hard earned money. While you can chose to head into a local storefront, many of us take shopping to the next level with the world wide web. Our thirst for getting whatever we want, whenever we want is right at our finger tips with the constant flow of new innovative aps and sites. In the fashion world ecommerce means that you have a plethora of options and you can be a very mindful consumer if you so choose. Online shopping means being able to access your favorite designers, genres, trends and exploring new brands to expand your apparel repartee.
I personally like a mix of both worlds. I love the options that come with online shopping but I have my tried and true stores that always deliver great finds. With fall in full swing and winter just around the corner, check out my top 5 favorite shopping destinations!
Maker’s Market: While online shopping can open up a whole world of options, sometimes it can be a tool for supporting your local artists and contributing to your community. Maker’s Market has done all the work for us and complied the best of American handcrafted goods. The quality of materials and craftsmanship of these goods is unparalleled and not to mention that they just ooze Americana classic style. If you are ever in San Francisco, Maker’s Market has a brick and mortar store where you can touch and play with all these goods in person.
Poshmark: Online retail space has been re-invented several times over with start up companies bringing inventive ideas to one of the world’s oldest industry. Poshmark has created a shopping ap that allows you to shop the closets of other fashionistas while at the same time allowing you to sell or trade clothing that you no longer want. Closet envy ends here because you can just buy direct from your favorite gal's closet at a very discounted price. Poshmark hosts virtual themed shopping parties where you can browse the best of the best. I am currently in the process of a major closet clean out and will be selling a large portion of my wardrobe. I am currently on the road but my store will be back up and running in December. Check out my closet here!
Sosh: This new start up company has added a social element to shopping by hosting clothing swap parties in many major cities. Get inspired with fellow fashionistas and turn your tired closet clothing into new loot. Participate in the most glamourous thrifty activity while sipping wine, munching on yummies and even catching a flick. Perfect for bloggers and shopaholics who have a closet full of clothes only worn a couple times!
Colabination: As a fashion blogger I am always looking for the next trend and designer coming up around the corner. The team at Colabination have their fingers on the pulse of the fashion indie culture and know how to present it in an easily digestible format. They connect me with worldwide emerging brands and designers that I would never have found otherwise. The site’s visuals and social media brings fashion inspiration making my mind run wild with styling ideas.
Savers: This one is an old stand-by that has recently been incorporated into the modern world. I have been a loyal Saver’s customer since my mother took me shopping there as an infant. In the early days it was mostly frequented by low income families but in recent years the young hipster crowd has discovered my secret. The hunt for vintage and otherwise unattainable high labels has college and high school students digging through the racks in search of bounty.
As an international chain of thrift stores, Savers maintains the original shopping concept of brick-and-mortar. But with their emergence into social media, they have built an engaged online community that loves to personally endorse their stores. The thrill of the hunt can most definitely be applied to thrift shopping and everyone enjoys showing off their catch. Bloggers and fashion enthusiasts far and wide are taking to Facebook and Instagram to showcase their amazing steals from Savers.
