Back in October we headed out to the coast to enjoy some sunshine and fresh air. I waited a couple of months to post this because I wanted the dust to settle and to feel more at peace. We went to Montara Mountain one weekend because I felt like I needed an escape and a place to clear my mind after receiving some heartbreaking news. My close friend Jack had been killed by a random act of violence. He was only 31 years old and so much life ahead of him.
Jack was there so many times when I needed a friend to lean on, and I thought long and hard about the best way to honor his memory. I remember the hikes we took in Bidwell Park and how much we both enjoyed being outside in nature. Montara Mountain is in my hometown of Half Moon Bay and seemed like the perfect place to get away from reality for a while. The trail leads you upwards into the clouds and makes the world below feel small. This walk is for you buddy, always remembered in our hearts.
The last text I received from Jack says it all:
hope you're doing well my friend :-) have a good day
